Evaluation

Our main project was Character Designing and the theme was secrets in video games. The theme was mostly based of thing such as Easter Eggs in computer games such as Portal and Halo and why the creator put these treats inside, we also looked into the psychological aspect of Secrets and characters and what hidden emotions they may not want others to see and the last idea was secret organisations that are made in video games such as FireFlies from The Last of Us.

The first few lesson we learnt different tools and ways of creating different and cool designs. Our first idea was creating simplistic faces and robotic style faces, it was a tiring lesson as drawing mentally drains me specially when its bad but i pushed through and created badly drawn face. After this lesson we created expressions we were asked to draw the 8 basic expressions and mix and match them to make other emotions which was fun exercise. This really helped my character customizing later. We went on to creating an snowflakes, badges and business cards which was a great way to learn the programs such as Photoshop and illustrator.

The final piece of work we did was actually designing and creating our characters this took a lot of thinking and designing and took up majority of the time. My original idea was to create somewhat of a bear/shark hybrid as I thought it was a funny idea how ever that became troublesome and I couldn't make it so I stuck with creating a shark humanoid which I personally thought came out good. As for my villain I wanted to create a penguin in a suit wearing a top hat and a monocle, due to my in ability to draw penguins and suit, I decided to get a picture of a suit and outline and fill in black then create all the details by hand and I did the same with the penguin head I think it came out rather amateurish but its the best I could do. As for the world we had to choose from talking trees too 90% water or an ice-cream world, i decided to chose the water one seeing as ice is a sold state water it still counts, i like how the back ground came out although there is alot more i could of added such as rivers or water breaks in the ice but never got round to doing it.

Snowflakes

The snowflake tutorial lesson was a rather complicated and exciting. Our first step was to initially make the arms of the snowflake. I then added them to a new brush pattern to store our design and then made a hexagon. After the hexagon was added I added our new brush pattern and mess around with the pattern afterwards I created several more of these. we were supposed to put these snowflakes on jumper and hats but my Photoshop didn't load the image files so i couldn't do that area of work.

Super cute/ badges

This photo is the product of our super cute tutorial lesson where we learnt how to create cute looking character such as these. theres not much i can say on how i did it i just created simple shapes ovals, squares, circles and stars then made it so i looked like cute style faces. This project i think was to get us to practice some basic character creating to help our final design.

These badge designs where really simple and to be honest i didnt find any real use to creating the badges besides getting used to illustrator. How i made thems is i created a circle and added a fill in the colour options i used the presets that where already there and then added a the title "Badge" to them and changed the colour and font.

Platform research

  1. What is a platform game? a type of video game featuring 2D graphics where the player controls a character jumping or climbing to an objective
  2. When did they appear? early 1950s
  3. Why is the platform game one of the most popular game genres? Platforms allow for a wide range of unique creations for people of all ages. Unlike war games it doesn't have a set rule of what has to be inside and every platformer has there own unique qualities
  4. Do platform games have a specific target audience, what age range and demographics does the platformer appeal to? Like i said platformers can have a wide audience due to the qualities that can be added. ive payed some with lots of gore and some which as cutsie characters
  5. Name and analyse 3 of the most popular Platform games, why are they so popular and what is the unique selling point of these games?
Super Mario Galaxy 2
In the eyes of gamers this is the best Platform game that has ever come to market. I think the reason for this is because Mario is a well know game that has been with us for generations. What makes this popular to other Platformers is the unique colour with the amazing thought out level design along with the 3D graphics it makes for a enjoyable time.

Ori and the Blind Forest
What makes this a great game can be summed up in the first 10min of the game as it set the game up as a vibrant and emotional game. This game has elements of tech trees that you need to unlock speacial abilities to progress in the game. The beautiful art style mixed with emotional story line and incredible level design is what makes it such a popular game.

Business card

Today in photoshop we were told to create a business card using illustrator. we learnt a lot of editing techniques such as cropping and blending.

to create this image it took a lot of work. First i googled  faze logo and found a white F on a red back ground, reason for this is so its easier to cut out the F. Afterwards i searched for a Electric Blue Eagle as i thought it was a badass looking image. I hid the F for now and pasted my bird in, i also found electric blue lightning and added that. I erased around the Bird so it fitted nicely onto the lightning. I then un-hid the F and positioned my images to fit where the lightning is at the top and the eagle is in the middle but still visible. i the realized on the bottom right there was a bit of image that didn't fit so i came up with a solution to ad a blue smoke to the corner to break up the emptiness how ever the blue didn't contrast with the eagle but the look still came out nicely. I then merged the images into one and cut out the F so i was left with the image of the F and no red background. I applied this to my business card template i have and change the back ground to red. i then added a shadow to the F to make it look more 3D then added a black to red faded affect to the back and completed my image

App

APP

Fruit ninja: In Fruit Ninja, the player slices fruit with a blade controlled via the touch screen. As the fruit is thrown onto the screen, the player swipes their finger across the screen to create a slicing motion, attempting to slice the fruit in half. The reason to fruit ninjas success is the competitive element mixed with its addictive nature as playing against your friends was rather fun and exciting specially when you can get them bragging rights over your friends, which in most game apps is only reason to why it is popular.

Clash of Clans: Clash of Clans is an online multiplayer game in which players build a community, train troops, and attack other players to earn Gold and Elixir, and Dark Elixir, which can be used to build defenses that protect the player from other players' attacks, and to train and upgrade troops.[5] The game also features a pseudo-single player campaign in which the player must attack a series of fortified goblin villages. The popularity of this game came from the strategy and competitive aspects as the creators created a fun and unique competitive game mode which allows clans to verse other clans

Secrets in Games/APP's

Portal is a puzzle based game that defies the laws of physics. The creators valve have created a wide range of games and have created a world wide fan base so the creators like to add a little gift to their games to make the hardcore fans find them, these a re called Easter Eggs even though they arn't done in the month of April they still have the same principle of hiding things in hidden areas. In this photo it shows 4 of the Turret machine gun firing robots in a hidden area, this Easter egg is a singing Easter egg and they turrets are making music.

Another type of secret in media is in you every day phone. The creators of Apple coded in the function Siri an intellectual AI designed to help you figure out option, search the internet or if your really lonely someone to talk to. However if you as Siri what 0 devided by 0 is, you will be replied with a rather sarcastic  sentence.

A different type of interactive media is games that story changes because of your options picking. This is best exampled by TellTaleGames The Walking dead and how the story develops and gives you options such as save one character and let the other dies, this helps the player feel more connected to the story and that they don't want someone to die but they also don't want other character to dies so it cause a dilemma and draws you into the story.
